TiVotoComeBack - Move Content from your PC/Mac to your TiVo

TiVoToGo allows a TiVo user to move content from a TiVo to the PC for playback, DVD burning and viewing on personal viewing devices. TiVoToComeback allows the reverse: It allows you to move content from your PC back to the TiVo for viewing on the TiVo.

The term "TiVoToComeback," unlike the term "TiVoToGo" is an unofficial moniker for this TiVo feature. You won't find "TiVoToComeback" referenced on TiVo's website, but the feature is there. In fact, TiVo currently charges $24.95 for the software necessary to use this feature on a PC.

Once you have paid the TiVo Desktop upgrade fee (to get TiVo Desktop Plus), you will be able to move the following file types from your PC to the TiVo:

* Windows Media Video (.wmv)
* QuickTime Movie (.mov)
* MPEG-4/H.264 (.mp4, .m4v, .mp4v)
* MPEG-2 (.mpg, .mpeg, .mpe, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpv2)
* DivX and Xvid (.avi, .divx)

TiVoToComeback is a pretty useful feature in a number of situations:

  1. You have home movies on your PC that you'd like to watch through your TiVo
  2. You are upgrading your TiVo from one model to another and want to move content. To do this, you can simply move files from your TiVo to the PC and then back once you get the replacement unit. (Networking both boxes and moving content between the units is another possible option, but that requires you to have service on both units.)
  3. Your hard drive is dying and you want to archive files and then move them back to your new hard drive.
